Brain Injury Waikato invites allied health practitioners working with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) to attend a workshop designed to provide tools from Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindful Self-Compassion, somatic practices, and parts work. The workshop will examine the overlap between PTSD and TBI, guiding practitioners to approach their work from a compassionate perspective. Participants will gain practical skills to help ABI clients transition from emotional dysregulation to stability, and explore strategies for fostering collaborative partnerships between clients and practitioners. Additionally, the workshop will address methods for preventing practitioner compassion fatigue.
Content covered in the workshop includes:
Psychoeducation on how acquired brain injury (ABI) affects cognition and emotions.
Practical skills and exercises based on Compassion Focussed Therapy and Mindful Self-Compassion to support client emotional regulation.
Strategies to heal and reintegrate fragmented self-states through parts-work.
Practitioner self-care, including mindful self-compassion exercises to alleviate stress, the development of personal self-care plans and peer support to build emotional resilience.
